Life ~ Brilliant Life
Campus Life professionals are tremendously "other-focused."
Stewards of universities and colleges, champions of students and
student groups, and fierce advocates for issues of justice. Campus
Life professionals, from residence hall directors to college presidents,
particularly need to guard against the depletion of their most precious
resource: themselves!
I have
had the honor of working and learning on three campuses over the
past two decades, and respect the challenges and rewards the academy
offers.
In response
to requests made by campus life professionals, I have designed Campus
Life ~ Brilliant Life Group Coaching. Please contact me at brilliantlife@brilliantlife.com
for a schedule of groups.
Coaching:
It's not just for Athletes anymore
You manage
many relationships in your work. Consider adding one more: a coach.
A professional coach can help you gain clarity, fully utilize your
strengths, and take deliberate action in the realization of your
own goals, and the goals of your department.
For years, top executives have used coaching as a confidential resource
for themselves, and their teams benefit as well from improved communications,
efficiency, morale and productivity.
Coaching is not remedial--coaching is for high performers.
I am the
coach of vice presidents, deans, department and division heads,
mid-level managers, and newer professionals. They differ in job
responsibilities, but they share a passion for engagement in the
work they do and the lives they lead. How about you? Call me if
you're ready to "get into the game!"
The
coaching relationship was everything that you had outlined when
we first began. There is simply nothing like having a highly trained
professional as an unconditional advocate. As a coach, you helped
with your selfless ability to listen and repeat back what is heard.
You guided with objectivity and encouragement, and it was amazing
to me how you so expertly were able to keep the "consulting"
separate from the coaching. I remember at least two occasions
where you made a point of stating that you were shifting from
coach to consultant mode. I respect your clarity and professionalism
regarding each. I am impressed by the way you help with both the
personal and professional lives of those you coach with such skill,
grace, and commitment.

Mary
Ellen Sailer opened our first coaching conversation with the statement..."It's
all about you and what is better than that?" and I was immediately
interested! It *was* all about me and more than that...it was
great for me! As an individual who strives to please others, Mary
Ellen taught me that it was important to care for myself as well
as I cared for those around me...and to understand that this care
would make me a better friend, family member and colleague. It
may seem like an obvious concept but isn't it human nature to
ignore the obvious? In addition to helping me to understand the
whole picture, Mary Ellen gave me the tools to effect the changes
that I desired. We worked on expanded language skills so that
I could comfortably ask for what I needed...whether it was time
to think or more information to allow me to make a better decision.
I now have guidelines for difficult conversations and they are
personal to me - what can be better than that? I believe that
I have become more clear about myself and that this clarity gives
me the confidence to be great!
Thank you, Mary Ellen!
